Making a new cartridge requires to burn fossil fuel, oil or natural gas. On average three quarts of oil are burned to make each new cartridge.
A dumped laser cartridge creates three pounds of waste material, which will take more than thousand years to decompose.
In USA, the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) determined the landfills are dangerously closed to the maximum capacity in many States
For every recycled cartridge, approximately 2 1/2 pounds of plastic is withheld from the waste stream. The recycled industry saves 73.5 million pounds per year from landfills.
At AFEX, it is our social responsibility to set a good example to the printing consumable industry, that is the implementation of the 3Rs concept (ie. Reduce, Reuse and Recycle) for conserving natural resources and reducing waste to the environment. By remanufacturing laser toner cartridges, less empty cores are dumped to the landfills, less energy is consumed to make a brand new cartridge, and components are possible to be recoated.
